Does my Apple Watch need a screen protector?

If you have an expensive piece of technology, like an iPhone® or MacBook Pro®, you likely want to protect it properly with a case or screen protector. But how do you keep an Apple Watch® out of harm’s way?

At Asurion, we help millions of people troubleshoot, fix, and maximize their tech. From fixing a frozen iPhone to explaining what smart plugs are and how to use them, we keep the devices you rely on most working all day, every day. Here’s advice from our experts on whether to use a screen protector for your Apple Watch.

What is a screen protector?

It’s a protective accessory made of high-grade plastic or tempered glass that protects the screen on your device from scratches, scuffs, and cracks. Tempered glass protectors tend to work better than those made of standard plastic, but a screen protector doesn’t prevent scratches and cracks 100% of the time. Depending on how you drop or bump your device, you can still damage the screen—the height of a fall, the material it lands on, and even humidity are all factors. That said, a screen protector will add an additional layer of protection.

Do you need a screen protector for your Apple Watch?

The Apple Watch display is already scratch-resistant and made of highly durable materials. The latest model, the Series 7, boasts the most crack-resistant front crystal yet—Apple® calls it “the most durable Apple Watch ever.» So if you accidentally drop your Apple Watch, the screen likely won’t shatter, but there’s a chance it could get scratched (“scratch resistant» isn’t the same as “scratch proof»).

However, if you’re looking to keep your Apple Watch in mint condition, consider using a screen protector. It will give you peace of mind and protect the display from dings and scratches. Just remember: While a screen protector offers an added layer of protection, it doesn’t guarantee perfection.

Your electronics go everywhere. They need protection that keeps up.
